Lake
Artist: John Heywood-Waddington
"Lake", 2024. Oil on canvas. 60 x 70cm. The lake wreathed in mist, from a photo I took while on a walking trip in the Pyrenees, provided a good subject for exploring abstract-figurative language, evocative of yearning for something elusive in this haunting landscape.
Born in 1977 in Chelmsford, Essex, my enthusiasm for art began when I was at school. Graduating in 2022 with an MA in Fine Art from City and Guilds of London Art School, I currently live and work in Deptford, where I share a studio at Second Floor Studios and Arts.
Since completing my MA, I’ve been selected for the Artist Support Pledge show ‘A Generous Space 3’ at the Huddersfield Art Gallery, as well as taking part in three editions of The Other Art Fair in London, been invited to contribute artwork for Art on a Postcard and been shortlisted for the VAO 2023 Awards, and longlisted, this year, for the Jackson’s Prize Award.
I was also thrilled to be featured last year in the group show “7 Artists at 7 Stratton” in Mayfair, alongside fellow City and Guilds Art School graduates.
Last year, I also started part-time work as an art tutor, running workshops at secondary schools in South London. In October this year, I’m excited to be undertaking my first artist residency with Nocefresca for one month in Sardinia.
