Magnolia in pencil I

£725.00

Artist: Héloïse O'Keeffe

Title: Magnolia in pencil I

Dimensions: 30x21cm

Unframed

These two drawings were done as part of a series, exploring form and texture in nature. I was fascinated by how abstract the form became the closer I zoomed into the object and wanted to experiment with how I conveyed this almost molecular structure and form using pencil. Working mostly with the female form I was drawn to the magnolia flower because of it's curves and I saw a lot of similarities with the female figure which I wanted to explore further. I also wanted to push what I could do with pencil in regards to texture and I love the organic quality dry materials produce which further emphasize's this raw and natural quality I want to portray in my work.

Artist Bio:

Héloïse is a London based artist, whose work focuses mostly on form. Héloïse first began her artistic practice while living in Amsterdam. After moving back to the UK, she went on to study the Sight-size technique at Sarum Studio, Atelier of Fine Art in Wilshire, and later at the London Atelier of Representational Art (LARA). Héloïse’s work has been exhibited all over the UK and Europe.

Throughout her practice Héloïse continues to use the female form as her main source of inspiration with the subject always being at the forefront of the artwork. Classically trained Héloïse maintains a delicate balance between breaking away from the conventional standards of figurative drawing, isolating the subject, to reflect on greater issues such as identity, intimacy and stillness and using her formal training to explore the organic texture of her subject matter. Héloïse's use of dry materials, such as graphite, charcoal, and pastel further emphasise the raw and organic state her work portrays.
