Nicola Tremin’s work explores the fleeting beauty of the present moment, and that can be whatever is in front of her, or whatever is her head. Some pieces arise spontaneously after a period of automatic painting. Those are just as real to her as a still life, landscape or portrait. The subconscious drives most of Tremain’s work, and it’s often not until long after the painting is complete, that she understands the emotion and story behind it. Granting permanence to these brief moments or thoughts is a form of meditation for her and a much-needed escape from the non-stop demands of modern life.
